Toshiba notebooks with HSPA connectivity / GPS Ericsson
In recent months, we have announced the launch of a tuner between Ericsson and the major IT companies, interested to equip its HSPA mobile broadband modules for notebooks. This technology stands for High Speed Packet Access is the most important technology for mobile broadband in the world, with 198 commercial networks in 86 developed countries.
Lenovo and Dell were the first to integrate it into their laptop business, a 3G/HSDPA card to guarantee the speed and ease of connection to the user anywhere and anytime. Even Toshiba EMEA, today announced a partnership with Ericsson for the integration of HSPA mobile broadband modules into their notebook business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
The use of wireless LAN (WLAN) is increasingly popular and the demand for mobile broadband access to Internet and corporate networks anytime, anywhere has increased significantly. According to market analysts, the notebooks will be the key to the productivity of farms and HSPA technology will play a key role.
Through this partnership, Toshiba and Ericsson will benefit from their experience gained over the years. Teckentrup Thomas, General Manager Toshiba Computer Systems Division Europe, said: “Toshiba and Ericsson complement each other. Toshiba has an important role in the business notebook market, while Ericsson has gained extensive experience in mobile broadband. This new partnership will create beneficial solutions for their customers, assisting them in every aspect of business. ”
“With the integration of our Mobile Broadband Module in notebooks, we collaborate with the Japanese company to offer mobile broadband connectivity in real time to all business users,” said Mats Norin, Vice President Mobile Broadband Modules, Ericsson.
Users of Toshiba business will soon be able to use wireless broadband technologies (HSPA) of Ericsson, with modules that allow data streams up to 7.2 Mbps downlink and up to 2.0 Mbps in uplink. In addition, the module has a GPS (Global Positioning System) that can be used with positioning applications. Toshiba will produce the first notebooks with Mobile Broadband Modules for Ericsson in the second half of 2008. The Japanese company has always been a pioneer in technological innovation. All this computing power will be run on the OS Windows Vista Ultimate.
The three models Satellite P100-ST9752, Satellite P100-ST9762 and Satellite P100-ST9772 is, in fact, devoted to extreme gaming, and manufactured on Intel platform Cenrino Duo based on Intel Mobile 945PM Express Chipset, capable of supporting up to 4GB of memory main. Wide range of connectivity solutions, ranging from the network adapter Intel Pro / Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, the Gigabit Ethernet, 56k modem with Bluetooth. Complement the rich endowment hardware 4 USB ports, RGB, S-Video and DVI-D, FireWire. Toshiba confirm Blu-ray notebooks and players in 2009
Toshiba have gone public with their plans to develop Blu-ray devices, as they were tipped to be back in July. The company has applied for membership of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), the marketing and promotion organization behind the format, together with confirming that they intend to launch both standalone Blu-ray players and notebooks with integrated Blu-ray drives sometime during 2009.

Toshiba’s involvement with Blu-ray has been a long time coming, not least because the company was responsible for the rival HD-DVD format. However HD-DVD failed to find favor with buyers, and so around eighteen months after announcing their format was dead, Toshiba have jumped onto the Blu-ray bandwagon.
In their press release, below, Toshiba highlight both the growth of Blu-ray products and the demand from consumers and retailers for them to produce their own range as key motivators. Back when HD-DVD collapsed, Toshiba had suggested that it would focus on digital delivery rather than another disc-style format.

Toshiba Applies to Join Blu-ray Disc Association

In light of recent growth in digital devices supporting the Blu-ray format, combined with market demand from consumers and retailers alike, Toshiba has decided to join the BDA.
Toshiba aims to introduce digital products that support the Blu-ray format, including BD players and notebook PCs integrating BD drives, in the course of this year. Details of the products, including the timing of regional launches, are now under consideration. We will make announcements in due course.
