Intel Cedar Trail 2011 Atom platform detailed

Intel Cedarview 2011 Atom platform detailed: 32nm & DDR3 support

Intel Atom logo smlWe’re only now seeing the first Pineview netbooks – based on Intel’s next-gen Atom platform – begin to show themselves, but details are already emerging about the silicon company’s intentions for the platform after that.  Come 2011, say Fudzilla, Intel are expected to out Cedarview, a 32nm processor with a new, DDR3-compatible memory controller.

That DDR3 compatibility is particularly interesting, as it will put Atom’s RAM support on a par with what Intel’s Core i7 – Bloomfield processors can utilize.  However Intel will limit supported memory to single-channel sticks, though you’ll at least be able to use two DIMMs; that, say Fuzdilla, is confirmed for the nettop platform, but it’s likely to be the same situation for netbooks.

Pine Trail processors are expected to ship in early 2010 – with some sources saying as early as January – with the Atom N450 and N470 processors on sale throughout next year and into 2011.  No specific release details for Cedar Trail processors are known.

Lenovo T410s leaks, has two ThinkLights

Lenovo T410s leaks out, features not one but two ThinkLights

Two Lenovo leaks in one day? Our cup runneth over. It feels like we just played with the T400s and the T400s touch just yesterday, but we did see some leaked slides forecasting a T410s for January back in June, so these images are basically right on schedule. Big changes include a couple more USB ports here and there, some cleaned-up design, and — big news — the addition of a second display-mounted ThinkLight keyboard light. That’s simply decadence, friends. No word on specs, pricing or a release date, but we’ve got a feeling we’ll be finding out more real soon.

Gateway’s Windows 7-boasting EC18T tablet images, specs leak onto the screen

Hey, what’s this attractive looking dude? Well, from the looks of it, it’s Gateway’s not-yet-announced or previously spied tablet PC. A tipster with access to a seemingly infinite number of photos of this bad boy also shot over a spec sheet of the purported EC18T, and here’s what we’re looking at. This 11.6-incher is going to boast an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM, a Mobile Intel GS45 Express graphics chipset, and it’ll run either Windows 7 Home Premium or Basic. Of course, none of this is official information, and we have no info on pricing or availability yet. Hit the gallery after the break for a plethora of photos.

Intel ultra-thin notebook CPUs getting Q4 refresh

Intel’s plans for the burgeoning “ultra-thinnotebook sector have been leaked, courtesy of talkative notebook makers, who have tipped three new processors set to arrive in Q4 2009.  The new CPUs – two of which are dual-core chips – will slot in underneath the existing Core 2 Duo SU9000, which will stay at the top of the range, and include the Core 2 Duo SU7000 and the SU4000.

Meanwhile the existing Intel Celeron in the ultra-thin range will be surplanted by a Celeron SU3000 chip, with the Celeron 700 remaining the entry-level chip for budget models.  No word on which manufacturers have signed up to use the processors, as yet.

Touchscreen HP Pavilion dv3 leaks out, brings dm1 ultraportable and Core i7 dv8 along for the ride

Well, well, what’s this? We were just sent what looks like a rough draft of HP’s Winter 2009/2010 consumer catalog, and it’s got details on three as-yet-announced machines. The most interesting is the Pavilion dv3 with TouchSmart, which has a 13.3-inch touchscreen, but there’s also confirmation of that previously-leaked Pavilion dm1 11.6-inch CULV thin-and-light and the monster Pavilion dv8 with an 18.4-inch screen and a new mobile Core i7 processor. That’s a pretty strong lineup to back the new Envys, we’d say — and for whatever reason, we’re fascinated by this new trend of sticking touchscreens on regular laptops. We’ll see if the dv3’s TouchSmart 3.0 build is any more usable or sensible than Lenovo’s take on the idea soon enough, we hope — for now, check out the whole catalog in the gallery.
