Samsung NC20 Gets Broadcom Crystal HD Mods

Scratch up another victory for the Broadcom Crystal HD card. It has been successfully installed in Le Shred’s 12.1” Samsung NC20 over on the Sammy Netbook forums.
What he did was swap out the Wi-Fi card for the Broadcom card and attached an external USB Wi-Fi adapter on the inside and it seems like there was plenty of room to spare unlike on most 10-inch netbooks and no need to solder on an extra PCI-e slot like on other Samsung netbooks.
In the end, the card seemingly works as 720p video is smooth though he mentions he can’t get smooth 1080p video which is odd. Flash 10.1 hasn’t been tested as of yet.
Jail breaking the Apple iPad
It makes no difference how hard a company tries to make their products unbreakable, there is always going to be someone that comes along and cracks it.
This has already been with the iPad and it has only been on the open market for a couple of days!
According to MuscleNerd, he hacked out the iPad using a similar spirit jailbreak method used on the iPhone 3.1.3 firmware, although having said that it is not a superior piece of work because it is not something anyone can do.
Of course, everyone knows that if you admit to jail breaking your iPad will mean that Steve Jobs will come around to where you live!
Germany advises its citizens to say ‘nein’ to Internet Explorer
Autsch! In light of the recent attacks on Google China and Microsoft’s revelation that an Internet Explorer security flaw served as an impetus in the assault, Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security has released a warning to its population: avoid IE. Specifically, the report calls out the latest three versions — 6, 7, and 8 — but let’s face it, those older versions should be avoided on grounds of usability alone. Boy, bet the Bonn-based agency is happy about that Windows 7 web browser ballot screen, eh?

Mac OS X 10.6.2 hacked to admit Atom support
Mac OS X 10.6.2 hacked to allow Atom support

No bonus points for calling this one, but it looks like Atom support has returned to Mac OS X 10.6.2 — less than two weeks after it was unceremoniously removed to the dismay of hackintoshers. Of course, this new “fix” doesn’t come courtesy of Apple, and it does take the art of hackintoshing to some risky new levels. Developed by a member of the InsanelyMac forum, the hack is actually a full-on replacement kernel for OS X, which means it will require a good bit of fine tuning to get installed, and some considerable faith in the developer on your part. It does seem like quite a few trailblazers are happy with it, however, so hit up the links below if you’re ready to take the plunge.

os 10 6 2 hp dv3 (2)Video: Ben Heck’s 17-inch PS3 Slim laptop makes hearts race
Is it us or has Ben Heck outdone himself with the minimal clean design of his latest gaming mod? This laptop sees Sony’s PS3 Slim stuffed into a monochromatic chassis with 17-inch Gateway 1775w LCD throwing a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. There’s even space inside to tuck away the power cord when traveling. The pinstriped result is nothing short of elegant, sporty even, especially when compared to his PS3 laptop from 2008. Not much in the way of detail yet, but really, this one’s meant to stimulate the heart, not the frontal cortex. See it throb to life in the video after the break.
