Motorola Android tablet may Introduce soon

Motorola may be in the process of designing a tablet that will run Google’s Android OS, says a company executive. The executive was answering questions at a conference when the subject came up. He also revealed that Motorola is focusing heavily on Android. The potential device, according to the executive, would be about 7 to 10 inches and would be intended to supplement a user’s TV experience.

This rumor has come about at the same time as another rumor concerning Android devices made by Motorola. Motorola is allegedly working on two new high-end Droid phones that will be released sometime in July with Verizon as their carrier. There has been speculation that one of the phones has already been seen by the public in the form of a prototype found in a gym earlier this week.

Either way, this summer looks to be very interesting in terms of Android devices.

Lenovo Skylight, U1 Hybrid Migrate To Android

For those eagerly awaiting the Lenovo Skylight or U1 Hybrid smartbooks to go on sale very shortly will be disappointed because they’ve both been delayed again - though it’ll be worth it in the end.

The Skylight was supposed to go on sale back in April but it got delayed as Lenovo weren’t happy with the state of their custom Linux OS on board, and this is still the case with both of them. According to feedback at CES 2010 at the start of the year, the hardware was awesome but the OS was seriously lacking, and slow to boot. That’s where Android comes in to save the day. Lenovo will be switching these devices over to Google’s OS though we don’t have any dates on when we should expect these on market, if ever.

Engadget heard that Lenovo plans for a Q4 release for Android based devices but that doesn’t necessarily mean either of these devices apparently.

Intel Atom Z600 series announced | Moorestown processor

Intel has announced the Atom Z600Moorestown” series of processors. This new processor is aimed primarily aimed at smartphones and slate tablet devices. It’s basically the successor to the Atom Z500 series which was aimed at MIDs but we saw plenty of in netbooks too.

More on the details: The Atom Z600 is a system on a chip with integrated graphics, video processing and display and memory controllers. Speed can be scaled right up to 1.5GHz for smartphones and further to 1.9GHz for tablets and other portable devices. There is out of the box support for 1080p HD playback, Wi-Fi, 3G and WiMAX. OS support for Android and MeeGo. No Windows support, at least for now, but we’ve heard rumors that there will be models supporting Windows.

UMPCPortal states that the graphics part includes the GMA 600 which is basically a double clocked GMA 500.

It’s vastly superior to the Atom Z500 series in terms of size and power consumption. LaptopMag details some of the features: 10 days idle time, 2 days of audio playback and 5 hours of video playback. Speed can scale down to 1GHz.
